Association for Strategic Planning Establishes its First Certification Commission

The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) is pleased to announce the establishment of its Certification Commission. Contributing to the commission will be a seven-person panel, appointed by ASP’s Board of Directors,  made up of ASP Certified professionals, public members and the support of the Director of Certification from ASP staff ex officio.

The mission of the commission is to direct the operational decisions related to certification including the examination content, process and qualifications, Standard Operating Procedures, fees, policy, appointment of sub-committees, application assessments, qualifying and communicating with Registered Education Providers and relationship with the examination vendor, recertification and appeals.

The Certification Commission panel will include:

Jason Brewer - Vice President of Strategy, Marketing & Revenue Development from MPI Corporation (SMP): Jason is a practicing corporate strategic planner, responsible for managing the strategic planning process within the holding company, and for the manufacturing company subsidiaries – none of whom have sufficient staff to operate a strategic planning process on their own.

Tom Carter – Treasurer of the Association for Strategic Planning (SMP): Tom brings more than 30 years of experience in professional development, strategic management, and association management. Tom was one of ASP’s “pioneers” helping create the certification program where he has remained active on the Certification Operations Committee.

Melissa Murer Corrigan - Vice President of Social Impact in the Center for Equity in Learning of ACT:  Melissa provides strategic direction for ACT’s program focused on closing gaps in equity and achievement. She recently was recognized as a 2017 Women of Influence from Corridor Business Journal

Brian Lawson – Director of Professional Affairs of Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS): Brian brings profound experience in association management and board certification. Brian serves as the staff liaison to the BPS-approved professional development program providers for the recertification of board certified pharmacists, as well as, the International Advisory Committee and Taskforce.

Jim McComb – Managing Director of Wild Card Strategy (SMP): Jim is one of the original ASP “pioneers” who helped build ASP’s certification program beginning in 2004 where he wrote many questions for the original exam. Jim has stayed active in ASP and most recently led the ASP Certification Exam Committee to write questions for the SPP and SMP exam after ASP’s Body of Knowledge (BoK) was upgraded to 2.0.

Marie Muscella – Enterprise Business Strategy, Practice Department Lead at Mitre (SMP): Marie has been an instrumental part of ASP’s Certification program since 2009 where she has played multiple roles in the areas of policies and procedures, exam review, application review, marketing, and recertification. As co-chair of the Certification Operations Committee, Marie helped the program double in the number of applications and in the number of successful certifications.

Sue Radwan - Sole Proprietor of Leading Edge Mentoring (SMP): Sue has been a key volunteer for ASP, most recently shepherding ASP’s Certification Operations Committee. In this role, Sue has reviewed applications, set up policies and procedures and improved processes.  Sue has been instrumental in the program’s success over the past two years with year over year growth in applications.
