"Bridging the Strategic Execution Gap"

Across sectors of our disrupted economy, there is growing awareness that, as key leaders formulate strategy for their organizations, a gap in understanding, performance, and execution often occurs for those charged with implementing the initiatives flowing from the strategy. This gap invariably translates into unwanted costs, lost opportunities and the failure to execute.

Strategic planning and management practitioners, consultants and academicians share a strong interest in mitigating problems that arise when a well-planned strategy fails at execution. In fact, many other professionals share our identical interest (e.g. project management, quality, finance, strategic alliance, business architecture, risk, organizational design, etc.) Specific objectives for the conference are to feature a cross-section of professional perspectives, learn from every person who attends the conference, and ultimately report out the insights captured.

The 2018 conference is an opportunity to invite professional colleagues from related disciplines to join with us to establish a better understanding of the strategy execution gap. From this shared understanding, we are looking for new insights, tools and techniques that will help each profession bridge their vector of the gap.

Lead, Think, Plan, Act

The integration of ASP’s “Lead, Think, Plan, and Act” mantra, as an organizing mechanism for the conference along with involving like-minded key stakeholders in the development of the program content, will provide a golden opportunity to add thought leadership to the broader practice of strategic management.

We are looking for presentations focused on the following or similar topics:

  • Best practices in leadership alignment to drive execution.
  • Case studies, tools and techniques for leading strategy execution and communicating transformational change.

  • How can allied professionals collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer to improve strategic performance? (panel)

Plan

  • Tools and techniques for aligning the strategic plan with the Project Management Office/Enterprise Project Management Office.
  • Impact of shortened life cycles on doing it right the first time.
  • Can fewer strategic objectives result in more being accomplished? How do you know?
  • Where does risk management contribute to reducing the execution gap?
  • Case studies, frameworks, tools and techniques for organizing a planning process which results in high-priority initiatives at the strategic level.
