Doing the right things and getting the right things done. These are persistent challenges in organizations of all sizes and across all industries.  Healthcare is no exception where both the operating and competitive environment is undergoing rapid change and transformation. Addressing the unique challenges necessary to bridge the strategy execution gap in such a dynamic marketplace requires leaders to be clear about the organization’s direction, reinforce it through both the projects they sponsor and the metrics they use to measure performance, and move quickly to execution. Metrics must be clear enough for all employees to understand and broad enough so that everyone in the organization can understand how they personally contribute to the organization’s success. Moreover, continuous improvement, performance management, and incentive systems should be aligned to the organization’s strategy to truly “hard-wire” the necessary reinforcement down to day-to-day operations.

In his address, Daniel Kotecki, Assistant Vice President of Operational Excellence at Cancer Treatment Centers of America will share how that organization has strived to bridge the gap to execution through a systematic approach that is anchored by the patient-centered vision and mission of the company and a clear set of “true north” metrics that guide everything from enterprise level project selection to departmental daily continuous improvement and many others in between. He will provide tangible examples of challenges and barriers the organization has faced on its journey towards achieving this alignment and lessons learned along the way. Finally, he will explain how leaders at multiple levels throughout the organization have evolved their approaches to empower both mid-level managers and front-line stakeholders alike which is critical to drive the rapid implementation of new offerings and improvements needed to better serve its patients.

Daniel Kotecki is currently the Assistant Vice President of Operational Excellence at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Cancer Treatment Centers of America is a national provider of cancer care with a network of five regional medical centers that are committed to providing patient centered care to cancer patients and their caregivers. In his role, he is responsible for ensuring the effective execution of strategic enterprise-wide programs and initiatives as well as deploying the CTCA Operational Excellence System across the organization.

Since graduating from Illinois State University with degrees in both Biochemistry and Chemistry, he has spent his career driving strategy development, deployment, and performance improvement in pharmaceutical, medical device, and healthcare organizations.  He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (LSSMBB) and received a Lean Leader Certificate from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2008.

While at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Daniel has led the Operational Excellence team, first at the Midwestern hospital and then at the enterprise level, helping to deliver increasing levels of business impact, with approximately $2.3M in 2014 and growing to $32.4M by 2016.

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys spending time with his wife, Connie and their three children Kahley, Kerrigan, and Caden. He also supports several charitable causes such as the Boys and Girls Club of Lake County where he currently serves as a member of the organization's Board of Directors.
