Executing a People-first Strategy
Organizations are essentially human creations and, as so, they carry the same conditions of humans: they are unstable, full of vulnerabilities, but they also have strengths and capabilities. Most of the current management approaches don’t fully incorporate the human condition in their frameworks and, as so, do not fully explore our capabilities to operate in an unpredictable and uncertain world. The predominant management practices are still from a mechanistic mindset, as a heritage from the industrial revolution, and are not enough to be efficient in an organic world. A People-First Strategy means that instead of thinking the strategy first to define later the needed human capacities to execute on it, organizations should first be concerned in develop a diverse team, with complementary mindsets that can think on the strategy on-the-go. That requires an entirely different way of thinking organizations, strategy, and people management. And there is enough evidence that organizations need to make this shift. How an organization should get structured to do this and what that means to Organizational Strategy is the key focus of this presentation.
